Time for some Island Life

Hello All and welcome back to the Blog!

This one features our 3 Nights and 4 days on Long Island. We stayed at the stunning Palm Bay Resort the only one on the island that is open. We used island transfers to get from Shute Harbor and it was about a 15-minute boat. We were greeted by the lovely Marco & Mariella, told about the Island then taken to our room. It was a lot simpler here but lovely at the same time. A bed, sofa, bathroom & fridge everything you could need on an Island retreat and to top it off our own personalized hammock on the deck area. Our View was straight out to the ocean, just stunning.

After arrival, we headed to the main bar for some lunch and then to the Pool Side starting the holiday the right way with some cocktails. It was then time to go for a snorkel, it was not the best conditions or reef so sadly did not see that much.

We decided to head for a walk and head North. There was a walk down to the old Happy-Bay resort which no longer operates. On the way, we took some small diversions. The first and my favourite Pandanus-Bay, was pretty and quite rocky and sandy a nice little detour. Fish Bay not so nice a swampy piece of land with not the best views but you cannot win them all. The Next diversions off the track were to Humpy Point, there were not much of a view just lots of damaged trees, it was sad to see the damage from the 2 prior storms because I’m sure the view would have been amazing if there was access all the way through.

The Final Stop was Happy Bay, this was where a resort used to be, but it was just closed buildings that were no longer in use. The Beach was nice here and more great views. We did the return walk back to the resort and then we watched the sunset on our deck area, Matt enjoyed the hammock too. We also had a super friendly cockatoo visit us.

The Sunset and it was time for dinner, the resort is self-catering so we had to cook for ourselves but that was fine and on the menu, tonight was creamy mushroom pasta with mushroom and prawns. We then finished watching the sunset and enjoyed some wine in front of the log Fire.

Morning number 2, we decided that we would get up early and watch the sunrise. It was a pretty good view and there were also a few whales in the distance which is always nice to see. After that, it was a game of tennis and since the last time, we both had got better with a few rallies in play. After this, it was coffee and breakfast, Today a few pastries quite delicious.

We then had a morning visit from a Cockatoo and a lay by the pool. It was a lazy morning, so we then decided that we would head to Sandy Bay, a walk in the opposite direction of yesterday. It was a 3K each way walk but worth it. We had stunning views and weather all the way and when we got to the beach regretted not having our swimming things as the water was perfect. I did some photography as I do best and after a short stop, we headed back.

Tonight, it was chicken curry for dinner with a nice bottle of red, we ended up eating super early but then enjoyed the sunset out on the deck, then it was time for bed.

The next Morning, I went to see the sunrise by myself as Matt had a bit of a lay-in, then it was a delicious fried breakfast. We then spent the day not doing too much, laying by the pool, going for swims on the beach and Matt did some snorkelling. We also enjoyed some time in the hammock that was on our deck, It was just a super easy day. We finished the wine this evening and had a few cocktails with sunset and enjoyed the fire again. It was then sleeping time.

The final morning was very cloudy but still a good sunrise, it was another fried delicious breakfast and then check out. We then did not do too much as we were on the boat at 2 so we just said goodbye and took our final pictures of the Island of paradise.

Palm-bay was amazing, just a relaxed as island life should feel and if back in the Whitsundays would return in a heartbeat.

Thanks so much for reading the Blog see you in the next one which features the Solway Lass
