The Great Ocean Road

So it’s been a crazy weekend, First of all, on Thursday evening, the lovely Carissa arrived from London. So we decided the 1st priority was our favourite burger bar, Little Oscar. We had lots of yummy food and drinks, then it was time to head home and get some sleep. Friday came and it was just a simple day of work and a trip to Coles in the evening to get all the treats and goodies for the weekend away.

So it’s been a crazy weekend, First of all, on Thursday evening the lovely Carissa arrived from London. So we decided the 1st priority was our favourite burger bar, Little Oscar. We had lots of yummy food and drinks, then it was time to head home and get some sleep. Friday came and it was just a simple day of work and a trip to Coles in the evening to get all the treats and goodies for the weekend away.

Saturday morning 8:30 am, time to get up and get on the road. The first priority is to pick up the lovely and featured in many blogs before Sam. We were off out of Melbourne and away to see some amazing sights. The first placed that we stopped was to see a lighthouse, it was very pretty and we got to see great views of the ocean too.  Next, we stopped off in a place called Lorne. We had some yummy lunch of fish and chips and then we decided we would go and check out the cottage we had booked to stay in overnight. It was a lovely place very homely, a log fire and very nice.
Time to head out and explore the Ottaway national park as we were fairly close to it. Our 1st stop was a waterfall and it was one of the most beautiful things that we had seen. The natural waterfall which was built over thousands of years. It was just amazing to get so close to it and experience it. After we spent some time there the day was closing quickly and we decided as the cabin we had booked had a BBQ we thought we should make the most of it, we popped to the local shops to buys some yummy food to cook.
We had a wonderful evening in the cabin, we ate lots of food played some games and drank wine in front of the lovely log fire, and even had the joys of toasting marshmallows over it. I think the highlight had to be the stars, looking up in the night sky and seeing hundreds of twinkling planets it was just so beautiful we could have stayed outside all night long, we did go in and soon retired to bed as we knew that the next day was going to be long and tiring.
Sunday Morning, We all are up and what a good way to start the day with Buttermilk pancakes, cooked by Matt of course. Once we had eaten, we all got ready and we were set off for day 2 of fun along the Great Ocean Road. We had a few different locations planned today the first stop was Kennett River, the place to see Kolas. So we parked up and went for a walk. There was a big group of tourists, surrounded by and feeding all of the parrots. We spotted one Kola but it was very crowded so we wandered up the road but had no luck. Time to get in the car and drive further up, we had no luck on the way up but stopped and had a brief walk. One the way back down Jamie was driving slower and Matt managed to spot 2 wild Kolas in peace, we stopped the car both times and enjoyed watching them one of them was really active it was great to see the natural wild Kola.
The next stop on the Journey was a small stop in the Town of Apollo Bay, we stopped off for some lunch which was ok, not the best now we have had so many brunches in Melbourne we are always comparing. The Next stop today was Joanna Beach we had been before and it is one of the most amazing natural beaches, it’s so calm and relaxing it was so nice to visit again and spend some time on a completely solitary beach.

The final stop of the day was the 12 Apostles, the thing everyone visits and WOW! They really were amazing, just stunning and the sun was setting in the distance it was such a beautiful sight and well worth the long journey. Both I and Matt Counted and we could only see 8 but it was still worth it. It was the perfect finish to the weekend. The last thing we had to do was drive the long 3 hour Journey back to Melbourne. Jamie was doing this so we set off, Both Sam and Carissa in the back fell to sleep and we had a quiet journey home listening to the wonderful Sherlock Holmes.
